Gov. Gavin Newsom announced the launch of the Salton Sea Conservancy, California's first new state agency in over 15 years, to oversee restoration efforts, habitat management and air quality improvements at the deteriorating Salton Sea. The 20-member board will hold its first meeting on May 14 to plan projects like replanting vegetation and enhancing water flow.
