A reader survey conducted by Cleanfax Magazine found that 78 percent of women working in restoration trades report high or very high job satisfaction — a figure that exceeds the 71 percent satisfaction rate reported by men in the same survey.
The survey, which collected responses from 890 restoration industry professionals, found that women rated three factors particularly highly: the meaningful nature of the work (helping families recover from disasters), career advancement opportunities tied to certification, and the quality of relationships with clients and colleagues.
Women respondents were less satisfied than men with one factor: the physical demands of the work, which 34 percent of women rated as a significant challenge compared to 18 percent of men.
"The physical challenge is real, but it's not a dealbreaker for most women in this field," said Cleanfax Editor Jeff Cross. "The data suggests that the meaningful, technical nature of restoration work is a powerful draw that outweighs the physical demands for the vast majority of women who enter the field."
The survey also found that women in restoration are more likely than men to recommend the field to others: 82 percent of women said they would recommend a restoration career to a friend or family member, compared to 74 percent of men.
