The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification convened its annual Standards Summit in 2026, bringing together industry professionals, scientists, regulators, and other stakeholders to review and advance the organization's suite of consensus-based standards.
The summit focused on several active standards development projects, including the S220 inspection standard and ongoing revisions to existing standards for water damage, mold remediation, and fire and smoke restoration.
IICRC standards are developed through a rigorous consensus process that involves input from a broad range of stakeholders, including contractors, insurers, manufacturers, scientists, and consumer advocates. The process is accredited by the American National Standards Institute.
The standards development process is particularly important in the context of the increasing frequency and severity of disaster events, as standards that were developed for typical loss scenarios may need to be updated to address the conditions encountered in major disaster recovery operations.
Industry professionals who participate in the standards development process gain valuable insight into the direction of regulatory and best-practice requirements, as well as the opportunity to shape standards that will affect their work for years to come.
