The Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) has announced a landmark partnership with Disabled American Veterans (DAV) to offer free certification training for veterans entering the restoration industry.

The program, called Veterans in Restoration, will provide scholarships covering the full cost of Water Damage Restoration Technician (WRT) and Applied Structural Drying (ASD) certifications — the two most in-demand credentials in the restoration sector.

"Veterans bring discipline, attention to detail, and a mission-driven mindset that makes them exceptional restoration professionals," said IICRC CEO Tonille Miller. "This program removes the financial barrier and creates a direct pipeline from military service to a high-demand civilian career."

The restoration industry is currently facing a workforce shortage of approximately 40,000 technicians, according to the Restoration Industry Association. Entry-level certified technicians earn between $45,000 and $65,000 annually, with project managers earning $75,000 to $95,000.

Applications for the first cohort open in January 2026, with training sessions available in 12 cities including Houston, Tampa, Atlanta, and Chicago.
