Very Active Start to 2026 Severe Weather Season with tornadoes, hail, winds near Lake Michigan

Northeastern Illinois saw multiple severe events in April 2026, including three tornadoes on April 2, large hail and flash flooding on April 14, and a regional outbreak with damaging winds and tornadoes on April 17. The Lower Great Lakes region emerged as a severe weather hotspot with dense reports of tornadoes, winds and hail through April 19.
