The Veterans of Foreign Wars has launched a national Home Restoration Assistance Program providing subsidized water damage and mold remediation services for disabled veterans whose household income falls below 200% of the federal poverty line.
The program, funded through VFW's National Home program and corporate donations from ServiceMaster and Belfor Property Restoration, covers up to $15,000 in remediation costs per household. Participating contractors must hold current IICRC certification and agree to VFW-negotiated pricing.
"Too many disabled veterans are living in homes with water damage and mold because they can't afford the remediation costs," said VFW National Commander Tim Borland. "This program ensures that the men and women who sacrificed for this country have access to safe, healthy housing."
Applications are accepted through VFW post commanders in 48 states. Priority is given to veterans with service-connected disabilities affecting respiratory function, immune response, or mobility.
The program expects to assist approximately 2,500 veteran households in its first year of operation.
